For the Dancing and the Dreaming

"For the Dancing and the Dreaming" from How to Train Your Dragon 2 - https://open.spotify.com/track/6tQa9SU9Bzs5y5zfctqOki

Hey y'all! This probably seems like a bit of a weird one from the outset, but during my time in prayer this morning I had this song circling around my head. As I started paying closer attention to the lyrics, what I felt God revealed to me is that the song is a beautiful portrayal of our relationship with Him. Just a heads up, there's a fair bit of intro before it fully gets into the song.

So often we try to please God and win, even earn, His affection. We convince ourselves that in order to be loved by Him we need to perform these great deeds of courage or service, extravagant shows of wealth, or embellished displays of praise and thanksgiving. But the beautiful truth is that God doesn't care for any of those things - after all, He made all of creation, so what can we offer Him that He doesn't already have? Our life, our provision, and our breath all come from Him. At the end of the day, there is only one thing that we can give to God that he actually, genuinely desires - ourselves. He wants our hearts, our hands, our time, our presence. He wants to love us and be with us, joyfully "dancing and... dreaming, through all life's sorrows and delights."

The best part? Once we've given up our need to impress God by giving Him what was already His to begin with, it frees us completely. All that's left is to live life loving God and being loved by Him, simply and securely. When we have that confidence, we can truly, "swim and sail on savage seas with ne'er a fear of drowning, and gladly ride the waves of life," because we know that He will be with us through it all.

I hope this has been an encouragement to you all, and that you may find a deeper, freer, more beautiful and intimate relationship with the God who holds the universe in the palm of His hand, yet wants nothing more than to be with you.
