Where Saul had once been called to remove the idols from the nation of Israel, he was now leading them into that very idolatry himself.

What happens when we either don't fully devote our idols to God or when we don't intentionally replace them to fill the gap they leave?

God wanted Israel, and wants us today, to be completely separated from idolatry - we need to fully devote our idols to God.

When we allow idols to rule our lives, we separate ourselves from the current, present power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.

In order to get rid of our idols, we have to first know what they are.

"They knew that the idols weren't real, but it made them feel closer to the god." A statement which is just as true now as it was then.

Perhaps there are things in your life that you feel are missing. The only thing that can really, truly fill the hole is God.
